The last few days have been pretty filled with voices, for me (and some of them not even just in my own head). I’ve been talking to more of my friends and family than I ever have about my feelings, I had a great session with my therapist, and I’ve also been working more diligently on feminizing my voice. All in all, I’ve had a very busy week.
Since I have no interest in undergoing vocal chord surgery, I’ve been spending a lot (a LOT) of time learning techniques to practice, and after much Googling, I stumbled across a few absolute gems that I thought I would share:
- “Finding Your Female Voice” from deepstealth
- “Tiffany’s Vlog #20″ from Jessica Tiffany
- “008 transgender voice-1″ from candiFLA
- “Changing Keys Voice Practice Program Part 1″ from girloftomorrow
Along with the Finding Your Female Voice tutorials, there’s some instruction on using a spectrogram program which can be downloaded here. I highly recommend the spectrogram if you don’t have anyone to practice with, but be sure to watch the FYFV video on how to set it up and use it. It’s absolutely amazing at letting you know you’re falling off of your desired pitch.
So far, I haven’t really developed any techniques of my own to add to those videos, but I’ll post another update on my status when I’m a little more comfortable with my results. I may be expecting perfection too fast, but I’ve already spent years singing along with the soundtrack to Rent, so that should speed things along, right?
